Nominee’s bio (and/or LinkedIn profile)

I'm a Member of Technical Staff at Open Networking Foundation (ONF) where I'm currently leading technical activities around the adoption of P4 and programmable data planes in projects like ONOS, CORD, and Trellis. Before joining ONF, I received a Ph.D. from Politecnico di Milano in 2017, in a joint program with École Polytechnique de Montréal, where I worked on problems related to data plane programmability, with a focus on abstractions and hardware architectures for stateful packet processing.

...

I've been an active contributor since 2016.

What contributions have you made in the past to the ONOS community?

I'm the main maintainer of P4 support in ONOS, including P4Runtime, gNMI, and other gRPC-based southbound components, as well as core abstractions to support pipeline and protocol independence. I've also contributed to the development of fabric.p4, the P4 program defining the Trellis reference underlay pipeline, as well as the corresponding ONOS driver implementation (i.e. pipeliner) and data plane unit testing suite (fabric-p4test). I've also worked on use cases of P4 programmability, such as S/PGW user plane offloading for M-CORD using ONOS and Trellis. Finally, I've contributed creating learning material around P4 support in ONOS, including the ONOS+P4 Tutorial, and Trellis+P4 Tutorial. In the past 2 years, I've given a dozen talks on these topics in conferences around the world.

What are you actively working on in ONOS?

I am working on hardening support for P4Runtime and gNMI in ONOS as well as integration testing with Stratum-enabled devices.

...

I believe I possess the necessary technical knowledge to steer ONOS into the next generation of SDN. My understanding of programmable data plane technologies allows me to bring perspective to design discussions and to evaluate project proposals.

Are there any changes you would like to bring to the community if elected into this position?

I think the community is in a good place. I will promote the creation of new learning material such as guides and hands-on tutorials, and revision of existing one, to streamline the access to ONOS to anyone interested in building network solutions based on P4, allowing the community to grow even more.
