Overview

OpenStack Neutron based Network Virtualization Service (Project name "SONA" Simplified Overlay Networking Architecture)

SONA is the optimized multi-tenant network virtualization service for OpenStack-based Cloud data center. Basically, it implements OpenStack Neutron's ML2 mechanism driver and L3 service plugin for ONOS, so it can be used to provision isolated virtual private networks and connect them through a routing. It also provides scalability of gateway device, which can be OVS or dedicated hardware.

Features

  • Optimized overlay network architecture
    • Multicast free VXLAN implementation
    • Logical switching for East-West traffics : No need to go through gateway for East-West traffic
  • Broadcast free : use built in ONOS applications for DHCP and ARP
  • Agentless : no Neutron agents or network node is required
  • Gateway scalability
